Women's Winter County Cup

Bucks Women travelled all the way to Cardiff to compete in Group 3A of the LTA Winter

County Cup. A team filled with junior and senior members of the county were raring to go.

The first match against South Wales saw senior debuts for Robyn and Helena. After the six singles rubbers, the match was tied 3-3 with wins for Izzy, Lereesa and Anna. Onto the doubles and two out of three wins meant Bucks were off to a winning start in Wales!

Day 2 was against Gloucestershire and we had a better start in the singles, leading 4-2 with wins for Robyn, Anna, Aneka and Lereesa. With Amelia and Lauren joining for the weekend, the doubles saw some new pairings, but again they picked up two wins to secure a 6-3 victory.

After 2 wins, the match against unbeaten Avon would be for promotion. The singles line up stayed the same after some excellent performances on the first two days. We started with two close losses at 5 and 6, before Aneka won our first rubber of the day. Unfortunately, we would only win one more singles match with Izzy at 1, but the match was still alive at 2-4. We needed to win both doubles matches on court to send it to a deciding rubber, but the Avon teams proved too solid in the key moments and we couldn’t get over the line. A 2-6 loss meant Bucks came second in Group 3. A successful and enjoyable weekend for everyone involved!
