Our boys team travelled to Aldershot to play in the Division 1a playoff, trying to follow in the footsteps of the 10&Under team who qualified for the national finals. The team spirit was high and we were hoping to carry this energy into the singles matches against Avon. Unfortunately, they would prove to be too strong, despite Oliver winning in a 10-8 match tiebreak, we were 3-1 down before the doubles. Oliver and Theo fought hard in a 4-2 4-3 loss, meaning we would need a big win on Sunday against Cambridgeshire.
A new day saw new players in the team, with Evan in his first county cup appearance and Maxwell coming in. The tie was almost over after the singles, Theo won 4-3 4-3 at number 1, but Oliver couldn’t get another match tiebreak win, leaving us 3-1 down. Both doubles would go to match tiebreaks, Maxwell and Oliver won, but Evan and Theo lost to put us 4-2 down. This meant a final playoff against Essex, despite nothing riding on the match, the boys played fantastically winning 5-1 with 4 clutch match tiebreak wins. A great weekend where the players gave their all, showing lots of resilience.
Team: Daniel Caswell, Evan Khare, Maxwell Sarr, Oliver Settle, Max Whibley, Theo Whibley
Coaches: Lee Nixon and Josh Bright
Results: 1-5 Avon, 2-4 Cambridgeshire, 5-1 Essex
