The boys were pleased to play at a local club, especially having a strong chance at winning the group and qualifying for the national finals. They got off to a perfect start, 4-0 up after the singles against Oxfordshire, giving Ishan the opportunity to make his county debut with Matthew in the doubles. The Saturday would finish with a tight match against Berkshire. Ronnie and Charles won the first two singles, with Oliver winning two tiebreak sets at number 1, while Maxwell narrowly missed out in two tiebreaks at number 2. Fortunately, they would pair up to win their doubles rubber, ultimately giving us a 4-2 win and in pole position to win the group.
Sussex had already lost to Berkshire, but a big Sussex win meant either team could leapfrog Bucks. Ronnie and Charles got us off to a perfect start, not dropping a game, before Maxwell gave the team a 3-1 lead. Qualification was in our hands and Maxwell and Oliver won their doubles rubber to send the team to the South area finals! A fantastic achievement and the boys are heading to Southampton this weekend to compete. Best of luck and thanks to everyone who came to Great Missenden to support.
Team: Matthew Abdey, Ronnie Gogol, Charles Mehta, Maxwell Sarr, Oliver Settle, Ishan Vishwanath
Coaches: Lee Nixon and Fin Barrett
Results: 5-1 Oxfordshire, 4-2 Berkshire, 4-2 Sussex
