U14 Boys County Cup

This year’s U14 County Cup was a huge success for both the boys and girls teams. This year has seen a change in format in the junior county cup events at U11, U12 and U14. Six teams with the highest ranked players qualify directly to the finals and this included our U14 boys team, who have 4 players in the top 50 and another 2 in the top 100, amazing strength in depth.

The boys team were off to the national finals at Nottingham and faced a really challenging group. Their first match was against Sussex and it finished 3-3, unfortunately losing two match tiebreaks 7-10. However, the boys showed great resiliency to win the deciding tiebreak shootout, to kick off their weekend with a win. However, Kent proved too strong and although there were several close matches, we lost 0-6. The next day, the team would bounce back, beating Cheshire 4-2 after finally winning a match tiebreak in the deciding doubles rubber. This win put the team into the 3rd/4th playoff against Hertfordshire and a 4-2 win meant they finished 3rd overall. An amazing result, thank you to all the players, coaches and parents for their hard work and support.

Team: Kyle Babbage, Harry Cornhill, Mohan Mehta, Nicholas Morrell, Oliver Osborne, Oliver Westbrook. Captains: Sebastian Callcut and Josh Greenway
