LTA President David Rawlinson crosses the border to visit Bucks
David is no stranger to Bucks having played a lot of tennis in the County over the years so it was good to welcome him back and for him to meet up with old friends. We met at the Bucks Indoor Centre (one of the few remaining county centres now over 25 years old and going strong) in High Wycombe at 8am and greeted him with coffee and pastries. Then it was onto court joining in a red squad before spending some time with members of the Management Committee. Six venues were visited of varying different sizes and it was great to see all the effort the volunteers had gone to, showcasing their clubs and activities. As an example, Aylesbury organised a very well attended Open Day. David spent time on court with the players but the tour nearly lost both of us at our second stop, Lacey Green and Loosley Row (great name and award winners), where we joined in a Cardio session! I have to say David lasted longer than me as I had to dip out, being the advanced party for the next visit! We used the opportunity for David to present awards (eg to Emma Strong at Princes Risborough who was the best player by performance in the Aylesbury & District League) as well as meeting parents at Stony Stratford and volunteers from Bucks Tennis. The weather was kind until Wolverton where snow stopped play. An exhausting but brilliant day and a big thank you to David for taking the time to visit the County.
