    Junior County Cup

One of the biggest and best team events of the junior tennis season is the LTA Junior County Cup.  Teams from every county in the nation come together for a series of regional and national events to uncover the champions. There are six age groups of competitions for the Junior County Cup – 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 14U and 18U – all taking place at different times.

  • County Week

LTA's Summer County Cup event - an open event - is possibly the oldest tennis event on the domestic calendar, dating back as far as 1895. 44 counties are divided into groups based on their results of the previous year’s event with Group 1 being the ‘premier league’. Teams compete against each other over a week to see which team comes out as champions of their division.

  • Senior County Cups

The Over 35s County Cup is a one-off summer event. 44 counties are placed in 22 groups with teams promoted and relegated each year. The Over 40s - Over 80s County Cup is played over two stages, a qualifying event, followed by a Finals event. County teams are placed in groups based on their performance in the previous year and the top teams in Group 1 of each age, play off in a final.

county week

Commonly known as ‘County Week,’ this is the oldest tennis event on the domestic calendar, dating back as far as 1895. Taking place in July each year, 44 counties across the UK are divided into 7 groups based on their results of the previous year’s event, with Group 1 being the ‘premier league’. This is an open event, with anyone over the aged of 14 years eligible to play.

  • 44 counties are placed into 7 groups for both Men and Women. Each group (except group 7) is made up of 6 counties and each county plays one county each day of the week (Mon-Fri).

Teams of 6 individuals compete at doubles, with each match consisting of 9 rubbers - each doubles pair playing 3 x 3 full set matches each day.

Each group is held at a different location around the country, with all venues having grass courts with the intention to play all matches on grass (weather permitting!).

  • Women: Jemima King, Izzy Marshall, Alexa Wilson

    Men: Gavin McKinlay

Men: 5th in Group 2, so demoted to Group 3.

    Middlesex 2-7, Hertfordshire 4-5, Cambridgeshire 3-6, Kent 0-9, Essex 5-1

Full set of 2025 results can be found here and the groups for 2026 here.

  • Selection for Men’s and Ladies County Cup squads are made by the captain of each side, in conjunction with input from other experienced and senior members of each side. A player’s suitability to represent the County within this age group is not dictated by their rating or ranking.

Performance is instead based on a combination of previous performances for the county, as well as recent results and performance at county practice sessions and inter club/university competitions.

Captains of the Men’s and Ladies County Cup squads maintain active relationships with the captain of the respective U18 squads. Players from younger age groups will be invited to practice sessions based upon these discussions with the opportunity to make the event squads based on performance at these sessions. description

35+ County Cup

The 35+ County Cup events are separate long-weekend competitions held in August, on the grass at Eastbourne. Players compete in both singles and doubles. The 44 counties are in groups of 4 teams, based on their historic performance in the competition. These groups are placed in order of the previous year’s results with Group 1 being the ‘premier league’.  Final positions are based on how each county performs within that particular group – with teams getting promoted / relegated each year.

40+ to 80+ County Cups

The Seniors County Cup is a league competition between counties that is managed by the LTA. Around 2,000 players representing 400 county teams compete across age categories from 40s to 80s. County teams are placed, wherever possible, in groups based on their performance at the previous years event, with group sizes differing between age groups.

Seniors County Cup is played over two stages – a qualifying event, followed by a Finals. The inter county league matches take place from April to September. Teams who finish top of Group 1 of each age group will qualify for the Finals and compete against each other to determine which county will be crowned champion!

  • Each age-group captain is responsible for the selection of players in their squads. Team selection largely follows from earlier performance in the county’s open teams (including the Seniors County Closed Championship), and can be based on player rating & ranking, the captains’ knowledge of existing players, application and attitude, team trials and practice sessions (to establish the compatible pairings), and in reality player availability is often a factor too.

If you are interested in representing the County then in the first instance you should contact the relevant team captain for your age category who will be pleased to discuss this with you. Alternatively, please contact Anthony Heald at admin@buckstennis.com and he will pass on your contact details to the relevant captain.
