Job Description

We are looking for a Coach to join our existing team of dedicated coaches who has experience and understanding in delivering quality development programmes to groups of children aged 3 to adults. The weekly coaching sessions run for 38 weeks a year and holiday camps run for 10 weeks a year. The position also offers the opportunity to coach on a one-to-one basis to members of the club, run competitions and festivals and work within our schools programme. The position is offered on a self-employed basis under a Coaching Agreement.

Overview of the venue/company

Stony Stratford Lawn Tennis Club has nine of the best floodlit tennis courts in Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, a flourishing membership of over 400 children and adults and a busy match and social calendar. We also have two new artificial clay courts with an air-dome over these from October through to March which provides winter indoor tennis.

Our modern club house with lounge; showers; kitchen and members bar area provide a welcome relaxing environment after the tennis. We also have a separate building that offers fitness, table tennis and air hockey plus a coach’s office / pro shop upstairs in the main clubhouse.

Coaching organisation, Tennis Works, have been running coaching at the club since 2011. John Cavill is the Director of Tennis with Melvyn Jones as the Business Director. The core team of four coaches are LTA level 5, 4 and 3 with level 2’s and 1’s assisting. The overall coaching programme consists of our Competition Programme for those who wish to compete regularly, Development Programme for those who wish to improve their game in a social environment and our Schools Programme that invites schools into the club or coaches into the schools to attract more players into the game. Many players are taking individual lessons outside of the group coaching to further enhance their skills.

Person specification

The ideal candidate for this role must be qualified as a minimum to LTA Level 3, or international equivalent with LTA accreditation. They must be LTA Accredited Plus and hold a valid UK driving licence. They must be able to deliver high quality coaching sessions to students of all ages and abilities and have good communication, organisational skills and high levels of personal professionalism. They must be willing to adapt, develop and share knowledge within the Tennis Works coaching team. Someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, punctual, reliable and self-disciplined will succeed in our coaching team and gain great job satisfaction with financial rewards.
