Ladies Group 3A – Hills Road, Cambridge
Team: Jemima King (captain), Lereesa Easterbrook, Lauren Mckinlay, Amelia Barton, Mila Burek, Alexa Wilson, Millie Day, Poppy King, Laura Deigman
Friday 22nd November
Buckinghamshire beat Derbyshire 6-3
With a young team, Bucks ladies were keen to start the tournament with a win. Millie Day, 15, won on her senior county debut at number 6 with Amelia Barton quickly following at 5. This seemed to set the tone for the rest of the day. Bucks won 5 out of 6 singles with Mila Burek at number 1, also her debut performance at the age of 16, losing a close three setter. Derbyshire put up a fight in the doubles and Bucks won 1 out of 3 with Jemima and Mila losing a heartbreaker 13-11 in the championship tie break. Good news though, 6-3 win to Bucks.
Saturday 23rd November
Buckinghamshire beat Cambridgeshire 5-4
Lauren stepped in at number 6 as Millie had to return to Bucks to represent the county in two other sports over the weekend. A superb performance from Lauren beating a higher rated player with ease! Alexa at number 2 also didn’t take long to beat a higher rated and older player. An exceptional performance! Amelia and Jemima however didn’t get the memo about winning quickly and both took 3 hours each to beat their Cambs opponents in three. Let’s just say one court was slicing and dicing and the other first strike tennis!! The Cambs 1 and 2 were too much of a match for Lereesa and Mila. Bucks into the doubles 4-2 up. A new pairing at three, Amelia and Alexa stormed through the 1st set, had a slight lapse of concentration in the 2nd but powered through in the 3rd. 5-2 and the win for Bucks. Poppy/Lereesa (1st pair) and Mila/Alexa (2nd pair) fought hard but couldn’t get the win with the 2nd pair losing a close 11-9 in the 3rd set. Final result 5-4 to Bucks.
Sunday 24th November
Cheshire beat Buckinghamshire 5-3
Cheshire had also won two out of two so it was a straight shoot out for promotion. Amelia and Jemima kicked off the morning, both three setters with Jemima winning and Amelia losing a tight one. 1-1. Alexa and Lereesa split as well with Lereesa playing some inspirational jaw dropping tennis! 2-2. The team was happy to see Laura Deigman coming in at 1 having had work commitments the previous two days. Again there was a split with Laura winning a close match at 1 and Mila having another heart breaking 3 setter, just being outlasted by her opponent. 3-3 and into the doubles. After a lot of deliberating the team decided to go with Amelia/Lauren (3rd pair), Jemima/Alexa (2nd pair), Lereesa/Laura (1st pair) knowing that Cheshire were strong throughout their doubles line up. Unfortunately, Bucks couldn’t get the wins needed with 3rd pair losing 7-6 6-2 and the 2nd pair 6-4 7-6. The match was decided, Cheshire got their 5 rubbers and Laura and Lereesa stopped their match at 6-6. So close throughout the day with only a few points deciding who got promoted.
Bucks remain in Group 3. A fun weekend and great to see the younger players coming through and representing the county.
