We held the inaugural Bucks Wheelchair Tennis Team Challenge on Sunday 19th April 2018.
The event was held at Bucks Indoor Tennis Centre and attracted 7 wheelchair players across the county (4 males and 3 females) from 3 venues; the first time that many of them were playing in a competitive wheelchair tournament.
The event used the Fast4 format, with abbreviated sets of first to 4. Each team would play one set of singles against each opposition player and then team up for 2 sets of doubles.
Ultimately Aylesbury were the comprehensive winners, winning 9 of the 10 rubbers and winning 36 games in total, congrats to Guy and Ian! David Lloyd Milton Keynes were 2nd, closely followed by Stoke Mandeville. Everyone fought hard and there were a lot of close matches, thanks to everyone for participating!
From the feedback on the day, everyone enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a competition and enjoyed the chance to apply the skills they had learnt in club programmes to date. There was a good level of playing standard and following this success, we will be looking to host the next competition at DLMK in September 2018. Furthermore, we will look to include a Visually Impaired competition.
Thanks must also go to Emily Weller and representatives from Bucks Tennis for running the event.
