Under 18 Girls County Cup 2018

U18 County Cup Report

23-25th February 2018, Group 2

A tough weekend for the U18 Bucks Girls playing in a very strong division 2 group this year with Sussex, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire the opponents. The Bucks team consisted of L- R Jemima King (Captain), Izzy Marshall (Halton and David Lloyd MK), Amelia Barton (Halton), Steph Reynolds (Milton Keynes TC), Lauren Armstrong (Halton and David Lloyd MK), Alexa Wilson (Halton), Lauren Mckinlay (Halton), Emily Honor (Halton), Sophie Ivansky (Halton), Laura Deigman (Assistant Captain)

The girls unfortunately came 4th in the competition which resulted in them moving down to Group 3. Bucks lost to Sussex 8-1, Hertfordshire 6-3 and Warwickshire 6-2. Notable performances throughout the weekend were Izzy Marshall, Bucks number 1, coming through and winning 3 out of 3 singles matches, a very tough ask. Izzy competed with calmness, grit, determination and resilience.  Lauren Armstrong played at number 2 and came so close in two matches finally being defeated on the last day 7-6 in the 3rd. Lauren displayed Bucks courage and fight throughout the whole match.

The Bucks team were highly competitive in every doubles match winning two out of three against Hertfordshire.  Notable wins for Emily Honor and Alexa Wilson winning at third pair in their debut as a doubles pair and Alexa’s first U18 county cup, and Izzy and Lauren A beating Herts 1st pair.  Sophie Ivansky came in and played with Lauren Mckinlay and Alexa Wilson. All the girls played with spirit and high energy.

The girls were beaten but not down and are already talking about 2019 and how they are going to move up the ranks again.  A special mention to Steph Reynolds and Amelia Barton who graduated from 18s county cup this year. I wish them all the best for the future and look forward to seeing them representing the county in the senior teams.
